Our Government

The City of Oak Ridge North, Texas is a Type A General-Law municipality. The City Council governs many city functions including levying taxes, adopting ordinances and resolutions, considering assessments, and exercising budgetary and police control. Council members represent the city by responding to inquiries, suggestions, and complaints.

Oak Ridge North Economic Development Corporation (ORNEDC) is a citizen volunteer group appointed by the Oak Ridge North City Council. We are a not for profit (4b) Economic Development Corporation funded by a voter approved one half-cent dedicated sales tax. ORNEDC recognizes the need to attract business and industry and actively promotes the area to new and expanding businesses. ORNEDC also acts in an advisory capacity to City Council in matters concerning economic development projects, including financial incentives.

The P&Z Commission performs such duties and functions as are set forth in Chapter 211 of the Texas Local Government Code, the City's Zoning Ordinance as set forth in Appendix A and any other rule, regulation or law applicable to a Zoning Commission. The charge of the P&Z Commission is to aid the City Council in an advisory capacity by reviewing, studying, and recommending long range plans for the City's future in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan and in those areas including, but not limited to, water and sewer services, annexation and growth, roads and bridges, drainage and other matters affecting the public health, safety, and welfare.

A TIRZ is a financing tool to use future gains in taxes to pay for public improvements needed to make the gains happen. This allows the new growth to pay for itself.  In December of 2014 the City Council approved an ordinance creating Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 1.

The overall mission of the Oak Ridge North Community Affairs Committee will be to serve the city by assisting its property owners, businesses, churches, and the general community through promoting community involvement. Oak Ridge North prides itself on being “What a Hometown Should Be”.
