Trial Overview
In all trials, a complaint is presented by the State's Attorney or Prosecutor. A complaint document alleges the act you are supposed to have committed. 

 

Certain rules must be followed by all court participants. The presentation of evidence, the cross-examination of witnesses, and any objections must be properly made pursuant to the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Texas Rules of Evidence. Bench Trials and Jury Trials
In the Municipal Court, there are two kinds of trials: bench trials and jury trials. A bench trial is presented to the judge of the court. Each side presents its case, and the judge rules on the evidence. 

 

A jury trial is presented before a six-member jury panel. Selection of this panel takes place prior to the trial for a pool of prospective jurors. Both sides have an opportunity to ask questions of the jury pool before the selection is made. 

 

Continuances
If you need a continuance or reset, the court must receive your request in writing three working days before the trial. You will be allowed only one reset, as will the prosecution. For more information, contact the Municipal Court at (281) 292-8736.
