Summary Report from City Council meeting of 01/23/17:

  1. Mayor Jim Kuykendall and City Manager Vicky Rudy recognized Director of Finance Kristen Woolley for her work achieving the Comptroller’s Transparency Star Award.   The Star program recognizes entities for their outstanding efforts in making their spending and revenue information available online.  All city budgets, monthly reports, check lists, etc. are available on the City website.
  2. Mayor Kuykendall and Economic Development Board (EDC) President James Walton recognized outgoing Council member and EDC board member Tom Coale.  Mr. Coale has resigned his positions with the city.
  3. Jones & Carter Engineers reported on the manhole rehabilitation project, the waterline loop being constructed to the business park across Hanna Road, the application the City has made for expanding its Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) and lighting plans for the baseball field at Marilyn Edgar Park.
  4. The EDC has approved funding of irrigation at Marilyn Edgar Park.  This project will go before Council at its February 13th meeting.
  5. The EDC and Council have both approved a reimbursement of $28,357 in sales tax to iFly per the City’s economic development agreement with iFly. 
  6. There was discussion regarding the new Police Building.  The building is in place behind City Hall and being finished on site.  Anticipated occupancy is March 2017.
  7. A committee consisting of council members Clint McClaren and Michelle Cassio was formed to study the Waste Management contract in preparation for a possible new solid waste contract this summer.
  8. Paul Bond was named to fill the unexpired Council term of Tom Coale.  Paul currently serves on the EDC board and previously served on the Planning & Zoning Commission.  There will be a special called election on May 6, 2017 to fill the position permanently.
  9. Council member Clint McClaren was named to replace Tom Coale as the Council representative to the EDC board. 
  10. Resident Dawn Candy was named to fill the unexpired EDC term of Paul Bond.  Ms. Candy lives on Wickwood.
  11. EDC and Council approved the contract for purchase of property at 135 Spring Pines for future water detention and drainage use.
  12. Council approved an annual ordinance authorizing participation in the regulatory proceedings of Entergy Texas, Inc. in 2017.   A coalition of cities studies rates and intervenes to reduce rates for municipalities.
  13. A general and special called election was called for May 6, 2017.  The general election will be for places 2, 4, and 5 on the City Council.  The special called election will be for place 1 to fill the unexpired term of Tom Coale, now filled by Paul Bond.
