Summary Report from City Council meeting of 01/09/17

  1. A date was set for a workshop regarding the preliminary engineering of potential widening and realignment of Robinson Road.  The meeting is tentatively set for Monday, January 30, 2017 at 7 p.m.
  2. A site plan has been submitted for a second hotel, to be located across from iFLY on I-45.  The developer intends to close on the property in late January.  Hotel #1, a Crown Plaza, is awaiting a drainage easement agreement from AT&T.
  3. The manhole repair project north of Robinson Road is 95 percent complete.  This is the final project of the seven year-long complete rehabilitation of the residential wastewater system.
  4. Construction began this week on a waterline loop connecting the business park on Robinson Road East with the waterline on Hanna Road.  This will improve water pressure in the business park.
  5. Council discussed and agreed to changes to the fencing plan at the City Water Plant on Robinson Road.  The west end of the compound currently has temporary fencing after demolition of a building on the site.  The fence will move forward as a combination brick and iron fence with a gate.
  6. Police Building- Council had authorized purchase of a custom industrial building for housing the Oak Ridge North Police Department.  The building is scheduled within a week.  Council has authorized purchase of a generator to support the new building.  The generator will also replace the aging generator currently supporting City Hall.   Installation of the building and generator will be underway for the next six weeks.  When occupied, the Public Works supervisory staff will move into the current offices of the Police Department.  The brick house currently located behind City Hall will be removed.
  7. Building permits have leveled at approximately $11,000 a month, down from previous highs in the $20,000 to $30,000 range.  This is indicative of the current slump in oil prices, which impede new development.
  8. Code Enforcement reported on 35 complaints and violations handled during December.
  9. Council approved expenditures related to installation of lights at the ball field in Marilyn Edgar Park.
  10. Council approved an expenditure related to staff leadership training.
  11. Council member Tom Coale announced his resignation from his position on City Council, effective immediately, citing personal commitments and time constraints.  Council will consider the resignation at the January 23, 2017 regular Council meeting.
