The San Jacinto River Authority voted in June 2016 to increase the water rates by $0.18 per 1,000 gallons used. This increase, while expected from SJRA each year, was higher than SJRA had anticipated. The City will be billed by SJRA for our pumped groundwater at a rate of $2.50/1,000gal, and the City will be billed at a rate of $2.69/1,000gal for our surface water received (as part of the contract with the GRP). This fee from SJRA covers its operation, maintenance, debt service, and reserve funds. The City anticipates an increase of only $0.15/1,000gal on residents’ water bill, but no other increases will occur. For example, a resident that uses 10,000 gallons of water would only see an increase of $1.50.
